Cinda
Motter is a lifelong resident of the north central Ohio area.
Despite the fact that she suffered from severe hearing loss, Cinda completed her primary and secondary education in the mainstream school system. After high school, she was lured by her love of the arts into higher education.
She completed a 4 1/2-year course
of study
at the renowned Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus,
Ohio. While at CCAD, Cinda received training and enhancement of her
multifaceted
talents in the fields of design and illustration. She was awarded
a BFA in 1977.
Cinda fully understands the issues
that face those with hearing impairments in our society. In 1998
Cinda was a successful candidate for a Cochlear implant. This implant
surgery altered her life and her career. It has brought
new sounds into her life, and she is now able to hear and understand
much more of the world around her.
Several years ago, Cinda made contact with the Sertoma Club of Richland County, an organization that
assists school-age children with hearing loss. This club sponsored a one-artist show of Cinda's. In turn, she conducted several "hands on" art programs for the hearing impaired children being served
by the Sertoma in the area.
This
relationship continues to blossom as both artist and club hold
the same values to be dear - meeting and challenging the issues
that
those who suffer from severe hearing loss must face and overcome. The name Sertoma stands for Service to Man. And Cinda Motter is
proud of her association with this service organization.
In January of 2004, Cinda joined the Ohio
Plein Air Society. Plein air painting challenged her to push beyond what was familiar. Cinda has painted in the rain and mud, in snowstorms, and in below zero cold that thickens her paint to the point of being unusable. She competes with the movement and changing of light with every brush stroke. She has become entranced with the joy of sunshine and fresh air, and her love of the arts continues to expand.
Cinda is also a member of the Akron Society of Artists, and paints portraiture and figurative paintings along with other members of the organization with a focus on painting from life using studio models.
In 2005, Cinda went with a medical team to help with the building of a hospital in Ruiru, Kenya. While there, she painted plein air and drew many sketches of the women and children that later became her references for the paintings that she has since completed.
